How I Do It
I follow an integrative approach in coaching. It is based on research evidence in solution-focused coaching, cognitive behavioural coaching, neuroscience and mindfulness. I use methods to develop clear goals and actions, more effective thinking processes, and a quality of mind that can bring many benefits in all aspects of the world of work and in life more generally.
Solution-focussed coaching
The solution-focussed model helps clients to be specific about the issues they want to address and then follows a clear process for co-creating a set of actions to achieve their goal.
Cognitive behavioural coaching
Cognitive behavioural coaching explores and responds to any unhelpful thinking that could influence how a problem is perceived or can help address any blocks that prevent the effective implementation of an action plan.
Neuroscience
It is important to understand how our brain processes particularly when working in a stressful environment. The model in neuroscience I am most convinced by is that our brains are constantly attempting to predict what is happening in the world (and its causes) from the myriad of signals received by our senses. This is a process that clearly works well most of the time. But, it can also make errors and create biases. So, understanding how our brains are processing is essential for success in and out of the workplace.
Mindfulness
Sometimes the part of the brain that can consciously influence our own thinking can go offline. When this happens our subjective biases old habits have more influence on our behaviour. Mindfulness techniques can be very helpful at these times. This is not simply about ways of feeling calm. Here, the aim is to use mindfulness to help us increase our awareness and to face into our unhelpful actions/thoughts/emotions so we become more disenchanted with them, and become able to break old habits and develop new ones.
